Review by Globalaza for Deja Vu (Freemasons Radio Mix) Rating:
I am not the biggest Beyonce fan. I think she is over-exposed, and just about everywhere doing everything from acting to modeling to clothing line to cosmetics and commercials to charity to being Ms. Jay-Z. However, the woman CAN bring a tune and make it stick to you. Deja Vu is another in a long string of hits that mix great, but simple, lyrics with a great beat and an easy melody. For all of her over-exposure, she still knows how to make a hit, and deserves much of the “diva” cred she has been bestowed since moving past Destiny’s Child.
No one would argue that Beyonce has the greatest voice, particularly compared with other vocalists in her peer-group such as Alicia Keys or Christina Aguilera, but the former Miss Knowles mixes the vocal talent she DOES have with good producers, a decent band and the help from the best hitmakers in the industry.
This particular track is catchy, has the right lyrical elements of defiance mixed with vulnerability that truly make similar songs appeal to a wider audience. Although I am not a big fan of hip hop interludes that ruin so many other great R&B vocal efforts [hear that Mariah?!] but if you are interested in a good dance version of this track, the Freemason’s version of “Deja Vu” and “Ring the Alarm” are great mixes.
I hope she keeps coming with simple, yet brilliantly delivered tunes that stick in your head and keep your feet tapping.
